Art
Below are some examples of Fran Gatins’ artwork, mentioned in
AWAKENING WITH MOTHER EARTH. They are not for sale at this time.

FIVE ELEMENTS
This quintych represents the Five Elements of Chinese
philosophy (Water, Wood/Wind, Fire, Earth, Metal) in their "support"
cycle. Paint, lemon chrysoprase, natural and dyed
pearls, dried hibiscus, handmade paper, sheet music, lovebird
feathers, red apple coral, zebra stone, abalone shell, polished
quartz with inclusions, toothpicks, sand and red clay. 12 x12 each |

WIND
I did not intend for this Wind Elemental to end up looking
like a Dragon. It just turned out that way. Birch bark, pieces of a
very large California pine cone, fossilized snails,
cholla cactus, stone, holy dirt from Chimayo NM, assorted beads, stones
and pearls, dyed and natural. |

MUSIC ANGEL
It seems logical to me that somewhere there is an angel
for music and singing, since everything in the world has a song.
Paint, paper, sheet
music, tangerine quartz, shells, coin pearls, moss, small
red beads, lovebird feathers, cholla cactus, string. |

LIGHTNING
I’d been making a series of collages on the Elements when,
within a period of weeks, we had lightning in our house four times.
I quickly decided I’d better do a collage to pacify that
Element. It has quartz crystals, paint, glass, mica, stibnite, pipe
cleaners, holy dirt from Chimayo, NM, and a feather. The
"head" is a fossilized sea shell. |

DRYAD
A wild wood spirit, made of maple burl, paint, geode, small
red beads, apple coral bead, seed pods from Morocco, crow feathers. |

MOUNTAIN
After the experience Annie and I had in the Grand Tetons
(described in AWAKENING . . .) I made this collage in homage and
gratitude. Paint, sea fans, wood beads, handmade paper,
ocean jasper, feather, tiny crystals. |
